I know that you are a GATE/IES aspirant & that’s why you are here. You may be in 2nd/3rd/final year of college or may be preparing by joining a coaching after completing your engineering.

So, it is good & nice upto now.

So dear, how is your preparation going?

Most of you will reply..

“Theek Thak.. So So.. “

“Haan chal rahi hai.. dekho kya hota hai..” (Yes it is going .. let’s see where does it goes)

“Arey sab lite hai” 😉

Why this lack of confidence?

Mostly, this happens due to lack of motivation. Motivation is one of a tricky bitch. It leaves you in the midst of the war. You will keep thinking like this & boom.. next day is your exam. What then?

It is completely natural to lose interests in studies or not doing it upto the mark it is required. Question is how to get back on track? You need to look after these points-

1.       How bad do you want it?

Yes, how bad do you want it? Do you want to clear exam & have an awesome future & write an awesome blog like this or waste your time chatting with your friends? Do you want it more than a party? Do you want it more than a funny serial?

Remember it may not be important for you & may be lying far far below in your list of preferences. But there are many many students who put it first on the list & by the time you are done reading this article they will have solved a problem.

You might have heard about this anecdote which I am reproducing here-

A young man asked Socrates, an ancient Greek philosopher, the secret of Success. Socrates told the young man to meet him near the river the next morning. They met.

Socrates asked the young man to walk with him toward the river.

When the water got up to their necks, Socrates took the young man by surprise and ducked him into the water. The man struggled to get out but Socrates was strong and kept him under water until he started turning blue.

The young man struggled hard and finally managed to get up. The first thing he did was to gasp and take a deep breath.

Socrates asked, “What did you want the most when you were under the water?”

The man replied “Air”.

Socrates said: “That’s the most secret to success. When you want success as badly as you want air, you will get it. There is no other secret”.

2.       Are you living each & every moment of your life?

One basic mistake that most people do is to forget that they are living. Don’t forget you are a human being, you have a life. You are not here to waste your time here & there. If you don’t feel like studying why don’t you take a stroll while enjoying the surrounding rather than checking your phone or facebook account?

Take a new hobby in hand & try it! Who knows you find it even more intriguing than anything else. And please choose something productive.

You don’t live in decades, years, months or days, not even in hours. You live in moments. Let this very moment count. If you let all those moments slip away like that, in the end, you will only find disappointment.

The day you start using each & every moment of your life, you will definitely conquer. At the end of day, ask yourself where have you spent each second of your day? Was it worth it? Or you could have done it better?

The Exams are few months away & if you keep wasting your time like that then you know what will happen. Keep asking yourself a question- The thing that I am doing, is it worth one second of my single precious life?

I found this over internet which I feel like sharing here-

Imagine there is a bank which credits your account each morning with $86,400, carries over no balance from day to day, allows you to keep no cash balance, and every evening cancels whatever part of the amount you had failed to use during the day.

What would you do?
Draw out every cent, of course!
Well, everyone has such a bank. It’s name is time.
Every morning, it credits you with 86,400 seconds.
Every night it writes off, as lost, whatever of this you have failed to invest to good purpose.
It carries over no balance. It allows no overdraft.
Each day it opens a new account for you.
Each night it burns the records of the day.
If you fail to use the day’s deposits, the loss is yours.
There is no going back. There is no drawing against the tomorrow.
You must live in the present on today’s deposits.
Invest it so as to get from it the utmost in health, happiness and success!
The clock is running. Make the most of today.

To realize the value of ONE YEAR, ask a student who failed a grade.
To realize the value of ONE MONTH, ask a mother who gave birth to a premature baby.
To realize the value of ONE WEEK, ask the editor of a weekly newspaper.
To realize the value of ONE HOUR, ask the lovers who are waiting to meet.
To realize the value of ONE MINUTE, ask a person who missed the train.
To realize the value of ONE SECOND, ask a person who just avoided an accident.
To realize the value of ONE MILLISECOND, ask the person who won a silver medal in the Olympics.

Treasure every moment that you have! And treasure it more because you shared it with someone special, special enough to spend your time.

And remember, time waits for no one.
Yesterday is history.
Tomorrow is a mystery.
Today is a gift. That’s why it’s called the present.

3. Think Positive-

Stop procrastinating. Stop thinking about failure. Always think positive. Always think that you can do it. Always think that you are on the right track.

You will see that it will change things. You can read more about it here.

4. Keep End Results in Mind-

Keep going. Try to innovate things. Try to make things simpler, easier & interesting for you. Wherever you are wasting your time, why are you doing that? I know it feels interesting now. But think of the end result. Whatever you are preparing for, it has an end result. An awesome end result, a truly life changing experience.

Everything that you do, every single thing, no matter how little or feeble appears it to you has a result.

You don’t realize it, but you are breathing this very moment & that is keeping you alive. You will notice it very much the moment you try to stop it.

So, be ready to face the results of your actions. You are the master of your actions & so the results too.

Have you seen the movie series ‘Butterfly effect’? Well it is a science fiction, but it has portrayed very beautifully how a single incident can change your life completely.

In physics, we have a concept of Parallel universe. Each universe is made up of the different choices you would have made in each moment. Why not to live in the best of those parallel universes by constructing it for yourself?

Without stretching it more, let me end this article with one of my personal thought. I always feel that beauty lies more in the listener than orator, more in the reader than the writer. It is because we like only those things which are in resonance with our personality. If you have liked reading this article, and are feeling motivated, don’t let that beauty in you go waste.

Give it your best.

Always remember this quote from Sherlock Holmes-

“I Play the Game for the Game’s Own Sake..”
